About us
NationPulse shows how each EU country is doing across 22 areas of society, drawn as a human body. Each part of the body is one area (the heart is the economy, the lungs are health and the environment); each shape inside an organ is one indicator.
Only official data
Every number comes from an official statistical source: Eurostat, the OECD and, for Spain’s quarterly unemployment, INE. The data is fetched from their public APIs every day and saved unchanged; each indicator links to its dataset and the exact request used.
Nothing is estimated, averaged or scored. Where no official series exists, the shape is hatched and says why.
How to read the colours
Trend (default): whether each indicator improved or worsened since the previous comparable value, slightly or clearly. Stable is shown neutral, because staying the same is not always good.
Benchmark: whether an official EU target is met, where one exists; a few indicators use labelled NationPulse thresholds instead. The colour of a body part is never a combined score: its stripes simply count how many of its indicators improve or worsen.
AI-researched notes
For areas without an official series (press freedom, court times, civic space…), purple notes show figures published by other credible sources, such as RSF, the World Justice Project or the EU Justice Scoreboard. They were researched with AI and checked against the linked sources; they are never coloured or counted.
Independent
NationPulse is an independent project. It is not affiliated with the European Commission, Eurostat, the OECD or any national statistics office.
Sister project: Corpulso
NationPulse shows a country as a body. Corpulso (corpulso.eu) shows your own body: move sliders for habits such as smoking, activity or sleep and see what published research says they mean for the heart, brain, lungs, liver, kidneys and knees of an average person. Free, private and educational, not medical advice.
